Selama perjalanan itu, Luhut beberapa kali mendapat penjelasan Nurdin dengan kondisi perbatasan dan pulau-pulau sekitar selama perjalanan. Ketika Luhut bertanya, sebelum anak buah kapal menjelaskan, Nurdin tampak lebih cepat tanpa melihat peta menjelaskannya.
Demikian juga dengan perbatasan baik di Selat Melaka maupun di Selat Singapura (Selat Philips). Nurdin sempat menunjuk kapal yang labuh jangkar namun diduga mematikan GPS sehingga tidak terdeteksi.
Dalam perjalanan itu juga, Luhut dan Nurdin melihat langsung kesibukan lalu lintas kapal di Selat Malaka dan Selat Singapura. Luhut melihat potensi besar pemasukan negara dari berbagai aktivitas laut yang berada di Kepri ini.
Sememangnya Nurdin sangat mendukung usulan yang disampaikan Luhut Binsar Panjaitan untuk menjadikan aktifitas pelabuhan dan lego jangkar menjadi makin baik dan terpadu.
Seluruh kegiatan dan aktifitas semua pelabuhan di Batam harus makin membaik. Bila ini bisa dilaksanakan, maka akan memberikan dampak yang sangat bagus.
