Kegiatan tabur bunga ini dilaksanakan dalam rangka mengenang perjuangan USS Houston dan HMAS Perth yang tenggelam dalam salah satu pertempuran melawan kapal-kapal perang Angkatan Laut Jepang pada saat berlangsungnya Perang Dunia II pada tahun 1942.
Rangkaian upacara tabur bunga diawali dengan menyanyikan lagu Indonesia Raya, lagu Nasional Australia dan lagu Nasional Amerika Serikat. Dilanjutkan dengan pembacaan do’a dan diakhiri dengan peletakkan karangan bunga yang didahului dengan tembakan Salvo sebagai penghormatan kepada para arwah awak kapal yang tenggelam.
Kegiatan tabur bunga tersebut juga dihadiri oleh Menteri Kelautan dan Perikanan RI Dr. (HC) Susi Pudjiastuti, Asrena Pangarmabar, Commodore Bob Plath Athase Pertahanan (Athan) Australia, Staff Athan Austarlia, Staff Athan Amerika Serikat, Dirjen KKP Satyamurti Poerwadi serta para pejabat instansi pemerintah lainnya.(***)
